Video servers enable the distribution of video signals over networks, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and the Internet. Video servers digitize analog signals and distribute the digital signals over a network, enabling users to view digital images over the Internet using a web browser.

Video servers can be easily integrated into an analog system to serve as an IP video server or network video server, leveraging the use of existing systems. Network video servers are used for security surveillance or for remote monitoring of high traffic or restricted areas. Video servers can also be used to deliver data or information, such as web casts. A streaming video server publishes video and other multimedia to the web, including footage from remote web cameras, while also storing the information on the media server for later retrieval. Video servers are also used for broadcasting video, audio, and presentation information over the Internet or a company’s intranet. A broadcast video server provide companies with the ability to share information readily, update employees with urgent or timely information, including system messages, whiteboard presentations, text messaging, and both private and public video broadcasting.
