Specialty power supplies are specialized or proprietary power supplies used with industry- and application-specific machinery, instrumentation, and equipment. This product area includes specialty power supplies for aerospace and satellite components, research and scientific equipment, telecommunication component power sources, and mobile field instrumentation. Voltage and current levels are often application-specific, and their power supplies must be designed primarily or exclusively for that use. Other specialty power supplies include amplifiers and power controllers for specialized industrial manufacturing equipment such as electrical winding machines, specialty heating and cooling equipment, and specialized assembly machines or systems.
Many specialty power supplies have aerospace and military applications. Aerospace power supplies are used in challenging environments, including air- or space-based platforms. Military power supplies are also built for intense usage, including shipboard, or ground-, air-, and space-based applications. An aerospace power supply or a military power supply may also need to be able to withstand battlefield conditions. Instrumentation power supplies are used in the field or in the laboratory to power mobile or sensitive instruments. Aerospace power supplies, military power supplies, and instrumentation power supplies must meet rigorous specifications, including standards for electromagnetic interference, input power, soldering standards, and electrostatic discharge.
