Hamamatsu Corporation has introduced its new L10290 UV-visible fiber light source, which provides twice the radiant intensity of previous models and also high stability.
The unit is compact and lightweight, and can be easily used with other portable instruments. Intended applications of the L10290 include spectrometry, environmental measurement, absorption spectrum measurement, film thickness measurement, micro titer plate reading, pharmaceutical testing, semiconductor inspection, and optical component inspection.
The L10290 light source contains two built-in lamps: a high-brightness deuterium lamp (with an output spectrum of 200 nm to 400 nm) and a 9 W tungsten halogen lamp (output spectrum: 400 nm to 1100 nm). Each lamp can be turned on or off independently. When operated, the L10290 emits light through an optical fiber light guide. Radiant intensity of the L10290 varies by wavelength of the emitted light, but generally the intensity of light emission is twice that of its predecessor (L7893) at every point along the spectral distribution range. Stability of light emission is extremely high, with fluctuation of typically 0.004 % peak-to-peak (equivalent to 2 x 10-5 absorbance units). Other key features of the L10290 are a guaranteed lamp life of approx. 2,000 hours, the inclusion of a shutter function, and external control capability. Light guides and filter holders are sold separately.
