The S10170 is a 3-channel color sensor that includes three photodiodes which are sensitive to seperate regions of the spectrum. Red sensitivity is from 590 nm upwards, while green sensitivity ranges from 480 nm to 600 nm and blue sensitivity ranges from 400 nm to 540 nm. The active area is 1 mm x 1 mm. The S10170 package is a surface mount plastic package that is RoHS-compliant (lead free). Its total package size is 3.0 mm x 1.6 mm x 1.0 mm, which is significantly smaller than previous Hamamatsu RGB color sensors. In comparison to the R9072, the S10170 is 80% smaller in cubic volumne and occupies 77% less space on a printed circuit board. The S10170 RGB color sensor is used for RGB-LCD backlight monitors in portable devices or LCD monitors, detectors for various light sources, and color detection applications.
