Hamamatsu Introduces 12-bit Digital Color Sensor for Color Detection Applications
Bridgewater, New Jersey – September 7, 2007 – Hamamatsu Corporation is now offering the S9706 digital color sensor for various color detection applications, such as display color adjustment, backlight dimmers in liquid crystal displays, and environmental color temperature detection. The S9706 is a monolithic CMOS photo IC that is sensitive to red (wavelength: 615 nm), green (540 nm), and blue (465 nm) regions of the spectrum. Users can switch between two sensitivity levels: high sensitivity, which utilizes the detector's entire 9 x 9 array of photodiodes, or low sensitivity, which generates signals from a 3 x 3 area at the center of the array. The S9706 also includes three 12-bit registers in order to simultaneously measure all three RGB colors. Detected signals are serially output as 12-bit digital data.
Additionally, the S9706 features low-voltage operation (3.3 V), does not require a low pass filter or external components, and has a storage temperature of -40 to +85 degrees Celsius.
